What support can you get from NDIS?

The NDIS will pay for support that you need because of your disability.

The NDIS will only pay for support that is fair and that you really need.

Example: The NDIS will pay for you to get a wheelchair if you need one, but they will not pay for you to get a wheelchair that is made of gold.

left: electric wheelchair. Right: wheelchair made of gold

Everyone is different so everyone gets different support.

What happens at a planning meeting?

In this 6 minute video disabled young people talk about what happens during a NDIS planning meeting.

At a planning meeting you talk about:

  • Your life

  • How your disability affects you

  • Support you need because of your disability

  • Your goals and what you want to do in the future

  • How the NDIS can help you to live the life you want

Speaking up at your planning meeting will help your planner or LAC learn about your life and your goals.

You can save your answers to questions in this program and take them to your planning meeting. They will help the person creating your NDIS plan understand what you want and what support you need.

Your goals and the support you need to achieve them will change over time. That means that your NDIS plan needs to change to so that you get the right support.

Your NDIS plan will last for 1 year. You will then have a planning meeting to create a new plan. You can add new goals and get support to achieve those goals.

You can talk about what worked well in your NDIS plan and what needs to be changed.

If you think your goals and the support you need will not change every year then you can ask for your plan to last up to 3 years.
