The Opportunity

Advocacy is about making change on issues you care about. YACVic (Youth Affairs Council Victoria) is creating a program that aims to support 10 to 12 young people to become passionate Young Advocates. You will be provided with training in Advocacy, Media, Facilitation, Youth Participation and Policy.

For this round, we will be upskilling young people aged 17 to 25 in the lead-up to the 2022 State Election in November. We will run a Young Advocates Program for young people aged 12 to 16 next year.

What does it involve?

The Young Advocates Program will bring a group of 10-12 young people together over 8 weeks to be trained up in making change. These workshops will run over 8 weeks, from 10 August to 28 September 2022. Workshops will happen on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm over Zoom. There will also be an in-person retreat half-way on Saturday 3 September.

  • Workshop 1: Introduction and Youth Participation – 10 August
  • Workshop 2: Issues affecting Young People – 17 August
  • Workshop 3: Advocacy Training – 24 August
  • Workshop 4: How to meet with your MP – 31 August
  • Half-day in person retreat: Saturday 3 September
  • Workshop 5: Facilitation Training – 14 September
  • Workshop 6: Media Training – 21 September
  • Workshop 7: Media Training p.2 and wrap up – 28 September

The commitment is approximately 18 hours for the entire program. You must commit to attending at least 6 out of 8 sessions in the program.

What will you get out of this opportunity?
