Background
YACVic and VicHealth are recruiting young people to get involved in two workshops, to understand how young people are being introduced to vaping and co-create anti-vaping activities that will support an anti-vaping campaign, which aims will amplify young people's voices and empower young people to say no to vaping and nicotine.
Our aim
We’re aiming create some activities for a campaign that empowers young people to say no to vaping.
In the workshops, you will share your lived experience of vaping (even if you’ve never vaped, we want to hear from you!). You’ll give feedback on existing UNCLOUD materials and co-create new activities for a campaign that supports young people to navigate social pressure, protect their mental health, and avoid nicotine addiction.
The opportunity
YACVic will run one online workshop and one in-person workshop for up to 10 young people (aged 12 - 17) with a diverse range of identities and backgrounds. You can participate if you can attend one or both workshops.
You will draw on your lived experience, unique perspectives and expertise in these workshops.
We will explore:
- The first time someone offered you a vape
- How people ask you to vape
- The types of places you’re being offered a vape
- What kinds of things help you to say no
- The best places to see anti vaping messages
Two workshops will be held on:
- Wednesday 8 July, on Zoom, 2pm - 4pm
- Friday 10 July, at VicHealth, Level 2/355 Spencer St, West Melbourne VIC 3003, 11am – 2pm (lunch provided!)
What to expect
- Beforehand you will be asked to read through the agenda and any pre-reading
- There will be approximately 10 young people in each workshop
- Workshops will include large and small group discussions. Plus, some activities.
- We may use platforms or programs like Mentimeter or Miro for activities.
- We will have breaks every hour
- Staff from YACVic and VicHealth will be running the session, taking notes and observing.
- The workshops will be recorded, and people will take notes. This information will be kept on YACVic’s secure systems.

About you
To participate, you will be:
- A young person living in Victoria
- Aged between 12 – 17 years old
- Keen to share your experience with vaping
- Interested in lowering negative effects of vaping on young people
What will you get out of this opportunity?
This is a voluntary opportunity.
You will be offered an honorarium payment of $100 for Workshop One and $150 for Workshop Two, for your active participation in each workshop. You can choose for this to be paid by direct bank transfer (which usually takes 2-3 weeks) or by electronic gift card (which you’ll usually receive within 3 working days).
During the workshops you may use and develop self-advocacy, listening, empathy, discussion and public speaking skills.
