Today is National Sorry Day, where we remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of the Stolen Generation – the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities. YACVic recognises the importance of truth-telling about Australia’s grim history and its ongoing impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

As the peak body for young people and the youth sector, we are committed to self-determination by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and to a world where every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young person can grow up connected to their culture, community and country.

YACVic will continue to support and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, perspectives, expertise and knowledge when it comes to caring for and nurturing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

YACVic recognises the importance and value of employing and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, and committing to diversity, cultural safety and reconciliation as part of our organisational culture.

We are also committed to creating more culturally safe youth services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities.
