This is a two-part masterclass that focuses on exploring and building strategic actions for racial justice within your organisation.

YACVic would like to invite you to participate in Gregory Phillip’s Masterclass on Cultural Safety & Self-Determination. This is a two-part masterclass which continues from Gregory’s presentation at YACVic’s Youth Sector Leaders Huddle on Racial Justice.

The Masterclass will be split into two sessions on Wednesday 23 September 2020 , from 1pm to 4pm and Thursday 15 October from 10am to 1pm.

General admission tickets will encompass both sessions.

What will it involve?

Upon completing the two-part masterclass, you will have a firm grasp of:

  • Safe Spaces – Creating safe spaces for learning and discussion
  • Background – Present the definition, rationale and evidence for cultural safety and self-determination
  • Confidence – Building confidence in balancing leadership and allyship
  • Action – Identify practical actions internal and external to your organisation

Why should I join?

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation and building stronger relationships and communities that recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.

The Black Lives Matter movement has thrust the spotlight on the disproportionate incarceration rates and ongoing oppression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia, creating an important shift in the conversation from ‘why’ to ‘what can we do?’.

This important step forward has come with the need to reflect on our own organisations and create structural change to ensure that we are proactively being anti-racist.

Is this for me?

This masterclass is available to Youth Sector CEOs and Leaders. It is aimed at informing leaders so that they can apply the learnings and strategic changes within the organisation and beyond.

The Masterclass is limited to 20 participants, because of this we are currently keeping registrations to one person per organisation. If you would like register more spots please contact Jess Standish on jstandish@yacvic.org.au to add to the wait list in case of any cancellations.
