What’s the role about?

We’re looking for a Young Member with a passion for advocating for the improved mental health wellbeing of young Victorians!

You will join the Assessment Panel for VicHealth's Bright Futures for Young Victorian Challenge 2018/19 2019/2020 as the YACVic representative. Together, the panel help decide which local council applicants will be funded.

Following this you will join the Bright Futures Challenge Advisory Group, to help make sure the project stays on track and remains relevant to young people’s wellbeing.

This initiative aims to distribute funds to projects which generate new partnerships and solutions that can promote resilience, social connection and mental wellbeing in 12-25 year-old Victorians at risk of social isolation or exclusion, poor mental health and related outcomes.

Paid/Voluntary

We will reimburse your time spent on the panel with an honorarium payment up to a maximum of $264 plus $66 per 1.5 hour Advisory Panel meeting that you attend.

We will be happy to discuss covering any other expenses to enable your participation, including regional/rural travel, child care etc.

Support

You will have support from both YACVic and VicHealth during this opportunity. YACVic Participation and Development Coordinator Sam Champion will be your contact at YACVic throughout the process, and Renee Imbesi, VicHealth’s Principal Program Officer Mental Wellbeing will offer briefing, coaching, information and support in the lead up to and during the scoring process, the assessment panel and the ongoing Advisory Group.

What is expected of me?

Grant Assessment Panel

19-24 April: read 5 pages of background/briefing information provided by VicHealth – you’ll be contacted by VicHealth to introduce the role and you’ll have the ongoing chance to ask questionsbe able to ask questions anytime. Approx 1 hour

24 April: receive package from VicHealth including all applications from councils and scoring spreadsheet.

 24-29 April: allocate 3-4 hours to read, score and assess shortlisted applications, and send back to VicHealth.

29 April or Wednesday 1 May: attend 1.5 hours meeting (10-11.30am subject to change) of assessment panel to discuss selection, to be held at VicHealth Carlton office in the morning.

Bright Futures Advisory Group

3 x 1.5 hour meetings during June 2019-June 2020, to be held at VicHealth Carlton office.

Are there any prior skills, knowledge or experience I need?

No, not really, we think that this role would suit most people as long as you have an interest in contributing your perspective to inform Mental Wellbeing programs.

What skills/ knowledge will I develop through this opportunity?

  • Networking with VicHealth, DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services) and local councils.
  • Insight to public health program design and implementation.
  • Skill in conducting assessments and helping to shape selection.
  • In this opportunity you’ll use and build networking, advocacy, influencing and negotiation skills.
