The opportunity

YACVic is looking for two young people to attend a roundtable on Tuesday 22nd October from 9am to 2pm, at a central Melbourne venue. If you're not a member already, you can join now - it's only $3 a year

The Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos MP, has asked VicHealth to work with her department to convene a Roundtable on Childhood Obesity Prevention.

The Roundtable presents an important opportunity to work with the Victorian Government and VicHealth to inform future action on obesity prevention for our state. Participants will hear opening remarks from the Minister outlining her vision and commitment to address childhood obesity in Victoria, and work together to recommend specific actions for government and its partner organisations.

Importantly, this work will build on existing knowledge and resources such as A Heathier Start for Victorians: A consensus statement on obesity prevention and the recommendations of the World Health Organization’s Report on Ending Childhood Obesity.

The consultation will be facilitated by a young person and you’ll be reimbursed for your participation.

Remuneration

We will reimburse your time contributing to this consultation with a $100 direct bank payment.

We will be happy to discuss covering any other expenses to enable your participation, including regional/rural travel, child care etc.

Support

You will have support from both YACVic and VicHealth during this opportunity. YACVic Participation and Development Coordinator Sam Champion will be your contact at YACVic throughout the process, and Jonathan O’Hara Senior Project Officer at VicHealth will also be available to answer any questions you might have in the lead up to or following the consultation.

How do I get involved?

If you’re keen to attend this event and are happy to give us a brief report back (a meeting, phone call or brief written summary of the event – whatever works best for you) then please get in touch with Sam, YACVic’s Participation & Development Coordinator by Wednesday 16 Oct at 9am. Answering the following questions, you can email schampion@yacvic.org.au with ‘Childhood Obesity Prevention’ in the subject or you can text 0438 072 200:

  • Are you aged 18-25?
