YACVic welcomes the Victorian Government’s commitment to a new, whole-of-government youth policy. Young people, as a group, must be visible and actively engaged in policy development and program design across government. A new youth policy will be a positive step, and YACVic especially welcomes the discussion paper’s emphasis on overcoming disadvantage.
In our response, we respond to the discussion paper’s consultation questions, offer suggestions on how the draft vision and objectives could be refined, and point out several issues currently missing from the paper. We also emphasise the need for ongoing participation of young people in the development of the youth policy, and the importance of articulating and supporting the roles of government and the youth services sector.
