The Koorie Youth Council (KYC) and the Youth Disability Advocacy Service (YDAS) welcomed the opportunity to make a joint submission to the Inquiry into School to Work Transition. The Inquiry highlights the importance of supporting young people into employment.
In this submission, KYC observes that education and training spaces that do not take into account Aboriginal young people's culture, communities, families and personal experiences. There is still a strong unmet need for culturally safe schools, programs and workplaces and recognition of students' diverse learning needs. Recommendations by YDAS highlight the need for a nationally consistent inclusive education framework, the adoption of 'universal design' in education spaces, and support for transitional programs that provide real and meaningful opportunities for employment and growth.
