What is Congress?
Congress is the annual and main decision-making event of the VicSRC. It sets the directions for the next 12 months and elects students to the new VicSRC Executive.

Do you have to be on your SRC?
No, but you must be linked to your SRC.

What year levels?
Students from any year level (7-12) can take part in the Congress, but Year 12 students cannot stand for election to the Executive.

What happens at Congress?
There are workshops around topics you bring to Congress, action planning sessions, a chance to meet others and hear how their SRC works - and the formal parliamentary-style Congress that debates the motions you suggest.

Is it fun?
Of course! Why else would we have it? And we get important stuff done as well!

Can I go?
Yes. Two representatives from any secondary school in Victoria can attend. Registration forms have been sent to all schools. Get elected as one of your school's representatives. When you register, we'll send you full information about the Congress including travel arrangements.

An information sheet and registration form for Congress has recently been sent to all schools. If you have not received one, contact the VicSRC offi ce urgently on: (03) 9267 3744. Registrations close 31 July. Congress location is the Oasis Camp in Mt Evelyn (near Lilydale). This provides separate male and female accommodation in small ensuite dormitories. Full supervision of students at Congress will be provided. We will send further information about practical details, including location and travel, to all schools that register.

2007 Congress Resolutions

In 2007 the VicSRC Congress was attended by over 100 students from 42 schools. They passed the resolutions below and elected a student executive to carry them out. The exec have been very busy and will report to the 2008 on what they have done with these resolutions. Then the Congress will use workshops and a parliamentary style process to set directions for the next 12 months and elect a new executive. So here is your opportunity to find out what's been happening and get involved in planning the future of the VicSRC.

  1. That the VicSRC Congress be an annual event.
  2. That recycling bins are to be provided by the local council and placed next to garbage bins within the school, and that the VicSRC investigate and recommend a process for doing so.
  3. That the VicSRC create an information pack (which also includes a DVD) in regard to water saving and recycling techniques to provide schools in Victoria with information to heighten awareness of water saving and recycling techniques.
  4. That school uniform policy be decided (or at least approved) by the student body and the SRC before implementation.
Action: The VicSRC made a submission to the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into School Uniforms. See the report and submission on the News and Publications pages.
  5. That there be an increase in raising awareness and gaining funding for the implementation of student welfare workers in schools so as to alleviate pressure and stress in schools, particularly in the VCE.
  6. That the VicSRC lobby for a whole school policy for all Victorian schools to educate their students in the conservation of energy and to set an example in saving energy.
  7. That the VicSRC Executive establishes processes and rules regarding quorum at the VicSRC Congress.
