Want to speak to our YRG?

YACVic’s Youth Reference Group (YRG) is an invaluable resource for other organisations looking to consult with young people. The YRG is a practical demonstration of YACVic's commitment to the participation of young people in the structures, processes, debates and environments that shape their lives.

The group comprises 6–15 young people between the ages of 12 and 25. Organisations external to YACVic are welcome to request a consultation session with the YRG.

All requests are put to the YRG and the decision to consult rests with the group.

Consultation will take place during the YRG's monthly meetings (usually on a Saturday between 2.00pm and 4.30pm), with the possibility to extend hours if it concerns issues that are particularly relevant or important to Victorian young people.

To inquire about speaking to our YRG simply call (03) 9267 3799 or use the form below.

Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space

YACVic and the School of Political and Social Inquiry, Monash University were very pleased to have Dr. Helen Szoke, (Commissioner, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission) launch a new research report ‘Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space’ on the 1st of September, 2010. The report examines young people’s perceptions of surveillance and security in inner city Melbourne.

In her speech, Dr Szoke commented:"When I read the report, I was struck by how sophisticated the analysis is, which is in effect what we need when we are dealing with complex issues, where we are trying to address systemic problems with linear instruments."
