Family Planning Victoria's new DVD resource on issues facing same sex attracted young people - 31-05-2010

Contributed by: Family Planning Victoria

Description:

Family Planning Victoria's fantastic new DVD resource for young people, schools and youth organisations, Not So Straight, explores a range of issues facing same sex attracted young people in Melbourne.

Ideal for use in health and human relationships education and student wellbeing and support programs, Not So Straightt has been developed by members of FPV's same sex attracted support group for young people, Yak.

It covers topics such as sexual identity, roles and responsibilities in sexual relationships, practicing safer sex, cyber safety, support strategies and homophobia. Educators and group facilitators can screen the 60-minute documentary as a whole or as individual segments on HIV, relationships, acceptance, moving out of home etc. to suit their particular program.

Alternatively, young people themselves can view the documentary to gain an insight into the issues explored and understand there is support available.

This resource will help break down pre-conceived ideas about sexuality as young people, both gay and straight, empathise with the open and honest stories and discuss the issues raised.
