Submission to the Vulnerable Youth Framework Discussion Paper - 30-01-2009

September 2008: YACVic welcomes the development of a Vulnerable Youth Framework (VYF) for young people in Victoria. The VYF provides a significant opportunity to improve the way youth services are planned and delivered in Victoria and enable young people to better access locally based supports in a timely way. To develop a comprehensive response to the discussion paper, YACVic hosted two sector consultations and a consultation specifically with state-wide organisations and peak bodies. YACVic also invited members to provide input into our submission via a response template which was posted on the website.

August 2006: The Bracks Government's Future Directions: An Action Agenda for Young Victorians outlines the Government's vision for young people and some key principles that will underpin the Government's approach to achieving its vision. It also outlines some key outcomes the Government would like to achieve for young people and a 'top 40' list of initiatives that will assist to achieve these.

Respect: YACVic's response - 30-01-2009

November 2002: Respect is the State Government's youth strategy which outlines their policy and program priorities in relation to young people. YACVic has produced a comprehensive response to this document.

August 2001: YACVic calls for the establishment of a Youth Policy Advisory Council to coordinate statewide youth policy development.

Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space

YACVic and the School of Political and Social Inquiry, Monash University were very pleased to have Dr. Helen Szoke, (Commissioner, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission) launch a new research report �Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space� on the 1st of September, 2010. The report examines young people�s perceptions of surveillance and security in inner city Melbourne.

In her speech, Dr Szoke commented:"When I read the report, I was struck by how sophisticated the analysis is, which is in effect what we need when we are dealing with complex issues, where we are trying to address systemic problems with linear instruments."
