Inquiry into the Impact of Violence on Young Australians - 06-01-2010

December 2009: The Standing Committee on Family, Community, Housing and Youth have received submissions into the Impact of Violence on young people in Australia. YACVic made a submission to the inquiry highlighting the importance of considering the particular vulnerability to violence and bullying experienced by some young people, including young women, young people with a disability, Indigenous young people, young people experiencing homelessness, young people who are same-sex-attracted and young people from refugee or migrant backgrounds. Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space

YACVic and the School of Political and Social Inquiry, Monash University were very pleased to have Dr. Helen Szoke, (Commissioner, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission) launch a new research report ‘Marginalised Young People, Surveillance and Public Space’ on the 1st of September, 2010. The report examines young people’s perceptions of surveillance and security in inner city Melbourne.
In her speech, Dr Szoke commented:"When I read the report, I was struck by how sophisticated the analysis is, which is in effect what we need when we are dealing with complex issues, where we are trying to address systemic problems with linear instruments."
