A STRONG membership base enables us to be an ACTIVE youth peak body in Victoria, which means young people and youth issues will be HEARD.

As a member you will:

Support YACVic's policy development and advicacy on behalf of and with young people and the sector that supports them.
Be able to contribute to policy submissions.
Be informed of policy developments and information relevant to the youth sector via our fortnightly e-bulletin, bimonthly newsletter, research publications and annual reports.
Receive free or discounted entry to YACVic forums, events and conferences.
Be eligible to vote at the AGM.*
Be able to nominate* for the:

Board of Governance (BOG): an elected group of members who are responsible for the governance of YACVic.

Policy Advisory Group (PAG): a group of members who meet to inform and shape the policy work of YACVic.

Youth Reference Group (YRG): a group of young people (12 to 25) from around Victoria who meet to discuss a broad range of issues relating to young people and plan projects around those issues.

*Note: Associate members are not eligible to vote at the AGM or be members of BOG, PAG or the YRG.

Our Vision and Objects

Vision statement

Our vision is for a Victorian Community that values and provides opportunity, participation, justice and equity for all young people.

Purpose

The Purpose of the Council is to raise awareness of issues of concern to young people in Victoria and to achieve a more equitable distribution of power and resources to young people, recognising differences between groups of young people in terms of their access to such power and resources.

Objectives

The Objects of the Council shall be:

To benefit the community at large by fulfilling the role of a peak body on issues of concern to young people in Victoria.
To provide a focus for organisations and individuals to share perspectives on youth affairs issues. Such organisations and individuals shall be those who support the Council's Statement of Purpose and may be involved in the provision of charitable services directly to young people.
To provide a forum in which young people in Victoria and organisations can make contact with one another. This may include promotion of the activities, facilities and undertakings of organisations as they affect young people in Victoria.
To conduct research into the issues of concern to young people in Victoria to facilitate these issues in becoming known to the wider community.
To provide direct support to organisations and individuals by providing an information and resource base which will:
- assist groups of young people working on issues of concern to them;
- assist service providers to increase their effectiveness; and
- inform the community about issues affecting young people.
To provide assistance to young people in order to enable them to participate meaningfully in the various processes which formulate and implement social policy in Victoria.
Having regard to the above Objects and to the Statement of Purpose:
- to monitor developments in legislative and non-legislative structures impacting on young people; and
- to gather views on issues affecting young people from organisations and individuals throughout the community in order to represent those views to the appropriate bodies from time to time; and
- to make the above-mentioned developments and views, their impacts and results known to the wider community.
