About the Coalition
In May this year a number of peak bodies and leading community sector agencies met to discuss developments in the campaign to establish a Victorian Children and Young People's Commission.
The meeting sae the formation of a community coalition which aims to promote the implementation of the Are You Listening to Us? model for a Commission. The Coalition has the following broad objectives:
- to promote the implementation of the Are You Listening to Us? model for a Commission
- be a strategic campaign network providing an open democratic mechanism for people with energy to get involved
- to provide a coordinated focus for negotiation with government, the community and the media
Founding members of the Coalition are: the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria, YouthLaw, Defence for Children International-Australia, Law Institute of Victoria, Victorian Council of Social Services, and the Children's Welfare Association of Victoria.
