Suspension of underage events lifted
The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria today welcomed the lifting of the
suspension of underage events in the CBD of Melbourne.
“While it has taken a longer time than we would have liked we are
very pleased that young people can now enjoy underage music and dance
events in the CBD again” Georgie Ferrari Executive Officer of the
Youth Affairs Council of Victoria said today.
The suspension came after what Victoria Police have called a number of
incidents of concern at these events. YACVic worked closely with Victoria
Police, the City of Melbourne, the Office for Youth, Liquor Licensing
Victoria and young people to ensure the suspension would be lifted.
“We will be very interested in the six month trial period and will
be wanting to participate in any review process that will assess the efficacy
of the new guidelines” Ms Ferrari said.
It is also very important that young people be involved in the review
of the guidelinesand their voices and experiences are key to ensuring
their safety at these events.
